Band 6+: In many societies in the world, the population is ageing rapidly and this is leading to an unsustainable increase in the cost of public healthcare. A nation's population should pay for their healthcare provision in the future. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that number of older populations is increasing in many societies, which leading to growing cost of healthcare institutions. There are reasons for this phenomenon, and I do not believe that it is the populations’ but the governments’ responsibility for paying for the healthcare services in the future.

The main reason why the population is ageing quickly is due to the well-performed medical system in the world. As many medical agencies have dedicated efforts on human body research, they also share the results to many countries around the world, which helps many institutions in developing countries to improve. Therefore, due to other nations’ assistance, people in many societies are treated well for being healthy to live longer. Besides, longer life means the societies have more responsibilities for ensuring older people’s health. In order to maintain individuals’ life, it is necessary to build complete healthcare systems which would lead to considerable cost.

From some people’s perspective, individuals’ health is their own responsibilities. However, instead of individuals, I believe that the healthcare services should be supplied from the governments. Since people paid the tax to the governments, they assume that governments would utilize their money to establish better communities. Therefore, the support of the governments should include taking care of them after retirement, and the projects governments plan should contain the healthcare provision.

In conclusion, because of the improved medical systems around the world, populations in many societies are getting older in fast speed, and the cost of healthcare institutions is increasing to considerable amounts. As individuals paid taxes to the governments, the governments should have the responsibility of supplying healthcare agencies.
