Band 7+: In most countries, prison is an effective solution to the problem of crime. Some people think it is a more effective solution to provide a better education. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The vast majority of countries around the world face the problem of crime. Most of them establish prisons where criminals undergo various measures that help them reintegrate into society. I certainly agree that prisons are an effective institution, isolating offenders from law-abiding citizens and giving inmates a chance to learn how to live lawfully.

The first and most important function of correctional facilities is to provide safety to society by isolating those with a proven history of violating laws. Criminals who remain free involve others in unlawful activities, form gangs, and continue committing crimes, causing harm to people, organizations, the environment, and the state. Prisons put an end to this by placing offenders under strict surveillance. However, isolation is not the only purpose of prisons. To prevent future criminal behavior, prisons

often offer psychological services, work opportunities, educational courses, and libraries. While in custody, inmates can address the issues that led them to break the law, learn soft skills to help them

reintegrate into society, or even acquire new professional skills to earn an honest living after imprisonment.

Different states have used various methods to establish law and order throughout history. The concept of prison has developed since ancient times, resulting in a system that has corrected many previous mistakes. I believe this system is indeed effective in addressing the problem of crime.
