The idea that prison is the best punishment has been widely debated. While I agree that prison is the best way because it is a crucial component of justice and it makes criminals get what they deserve, but it still has some drawbacks and limitations. That is why my opinion lies somewhere in the middle and other alternatives methods, such as making them pay fines and better rehabilitation system should be taken into account.
Firstly, prison is a powerful solution for serious crimes, like assassination, violence or robbery. It ensures the safety of society and for victims as well. Such way of penalty can bring justice for injured part and prevent the future crimes. Additionally, criminals get what they deserve through prison. To exemplify my words, I want to talk about domestic violence in my country. In Kazakhstan this practice common among many families and rarely guilt ones get any punishment, because it is considered as family’s own issue. As the result, the act of recidivism continues until it reached the point of no return. From my perspective, only solution in such cases is to put offenders in prison.
As regards, prison is not always the best solution. Prisons are often overcrowded and lack the resources which are necessary for proper rehabilitation. Furthermore, not every prisoners are there because of assault or severe actions, some of them are victims of circumstances, such as substance-abuse or poverty. Following this alternative punishment can be more effective.
Community services, high fines and house arrest can prevent aggressive behaviour among people. Moreover, better treatments and help from professionals for non-violent offenders, who were convicted in drug usage also a better way to tackle this issue.
In conclusion, while prison plays a crucial role in preventing future crimes, it is not only solution. For some situations alternative methods may lead to better incomes and stop the act of recidivism
