Every person needs a hobby, and one of the most cherished activities is reading. Some people prefer paperbacks; however, reading e-books instead of traditional ones is trending nowadays. I believe that e-books have more benefits than paper books.
The main benefit of paperbacks is that extended reading on screens can strain people’s eyes. The blue light emitted by digital devices is believed to damage vision and potentially lead to long-term eye problems. These effects can be alleviated by taking regular breaks while reading. In fact, many books published in various editions are not available in digital format.
E-books offer several advantages. Firstly, because of lower production and distribution costs, digital format can reach a wider audience, including those with limited financial resources, through discounts and promotions. As a result, readers can access high-quality books by renowned authors regardless of their location or language barriers, as many bestsellers are translated into various languages by professional translators. Moreover, unlike bulky paper books, e-books can be stored on a compact device, allowing readers to carry hundreds of books at once. Additionally, features like adjustable font sizes and built-in dictionaries enhance the reading experience.
Secondly, digital ones are more environmentally-friendly compared to paper books. Producing ebooks requires no natural resources, whereas printed books necessitate the cutting down of numerous trees. The production of paper books requires significant resources, including trees, water, and energy, which can negatively impact the environment.
To conclude, while e-books have some drawbacks, including eye strain and health issues from extended screen time, their advantages are significant. The convenience of instant access, portability, affordability, and environmental benefits make e-books a valuable resource in today’s world. Despite these challenges, I firmly believe that the benefits of e-books outweigh their disadvantages, as they greatly enhance accessibility, reduce environmental impact, and offer a versatile reading experience.
