The significant increase of traffic is a problem not only in some cities but also in towns all over the world. Regarding this problem, some people believe that banning car in city centers is a solution, but others argue that is an unrealistic way of approach. The essay will discuss valuable points of both sides before my opinion.

One of the most compelling arguments of banning car is improving health both mental and physical aspect. With the fewer cars on the road of city centers, it will decrease either air or noise pollution, leading to reduce stress and enhance peaceful atmosphere which helps to mental well-being. In addition, the ban can also bring walkable place and encourage physical activities such as walking and cycling. This will diminish the health hazards related to sedentary lifestyle including diabetes, hypertension and obesity associated concerns.

On the other hand, the negative effects of banning car: economic impacts and accessibility issues, are needed to be considered. By the restriction of cars, many businesses, including shopping mall, food and retail service, will lose their customers due to inconvenience, decline sales and even close. Furthermore, people rely on those businesses will be losing their job opportunities. Another issue is accessibility, especially in people with disabilities and those living in transportation desserts area. For such people, transportation difficulty will be a huge problem because car is the only available vehicles.

In conclusion, banning car in the city centers could experience not only positive impacts but also negative challenges. Instead of a complete ban, providing acceptable alternative solutions is essential to reduce car dependency such as upgrading public transportation infrastructure by making public transit more efficient and affordable, and supporting special plans for disabilities.
