Some companies and workplaces decline job applications because of applicants age, even though it isn’t supported by law. However, I believe that this tendency has it’s own pro and cons depending on type of job they choose and person’s skills itself.
One the one hand, some employers might be underage or sometimes might be much more older than expected age requirement. However, in this case I think employees should pay attention on that person’s skills and proficiency and performance at work. For example, take a 56 years old teacher, despite being elder, he might have strong potential still teach students and educate them profoundly. Therefore I believe, before hiring or rejecting their applications, CEO should put on top priority workers abilities to perform.
On the other hand, there are other jobs with completely different job requirements, which might demand physical strength. Under such circumstances, even though the individual is physically fit, it might have negative impact on one’s overall wellbeing and health if that individual is still teenager or pensioner. A 18 years university student who wants to work as a building-builder can be a perfect example for it. Despite having short-time positive financial impact on his live, it might have long-term negative impact on his health. For this reason, In my opinion not accepting application in such situations might be a meaningful decision.
To conclude, although rejecting job application due to age is illegal. Hiring companies should look at workers potential and still be careful whose application approve while having specific requirements.
