It is possible for people to have a variety of food transported from all over the world. In this essay, I will discuss both views and explain why I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
Some countries import food from different places around the world and this will help reduce food shortages. When people solely rely on their food domestically and do not import alternatives from other countries, it can cause huge confusion in their societies when their crops fail. For example, in the late 80s in Japan, there was a law banning importing rice from other countries to protect rice farmers. Despite this law, Japanese rice farmers were unable to produce enough crops to provide for citizens, due to a storm from the previous year, and people were suffering from how to replace their food, rice. However, after this tragedy, Japan started importing different foods like oats and Thai rice from other countries, and now, people are able to handle situations with imported food. Clearly, transporting food from all over the world is ideal for protecting people from lack of food.
On the other hand, a variety of food transportation from all over the world involves a long distance. This long-distance transportation is one of the main causes of air pollution and greenhouse emissions which contribute to global warming. For example, transporting food involves trucks and ships, which requires a huge amount of fuel consumption and these fuels generate carbon dioxide and greenhouse emissions. However, if people were to desire to transport numerous foods from around the world, it is easy to imagine how this transportation is actually having a massive impact on climate change. Obviously, with the variety of food transported from all over the world, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
In conclusion, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages because food transportation from all over the world is leading our earth to global warming.
