Cause And Solution

Band 6+: In some countries , not enough students are choosing science subjects for study. What are the causes behind this issue? What are the effects of this on society?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Science subjects, primarily chemistry, physics and biology, are the most important subjects that every student must learn and explore during their school years. However, not many graduates choose university subjects relating to science. There could be a number of reasons for these choices, and this could affect society on a certain extent.

The first reason for why most students do not choose to study science is its complexity. Almost all of the subjects have complicated and confusing contents, which usually takes a very long time to understand. Due to this, students easily give up because they realize that science is not their type of thing. Secondly, studying science is not only difficult, but it also takes a huge amount of time to be perfectionist and finally work in the science fields. People who study science subjects at university often spend their 4 to 10 years studying and training, which is not preferred by most students who do not want to study for more than four years. Lastly, another reason for this problem is that some countries do not have adequate resources for education, especially for science subjects. Science itself is a very practical and many-sided field, therefore, students learn efficiently by using tools more than just books and papers. For example, smart TVs where students can learn visually, and laboratory equipment, which students can do experiments by themselves. Unfortunately, some countries do not have the potential to provide this to the schools.

As a result of this issue, there have been some repercussions arising. There is a risk of insufficient professional jobs in scientific fields, such as doctors and engineers. Moreover, if a country is not connected with science enough, the country could be behind technological and medical advancements, which have been the most crucial topics in the world for the recent years. Additionally, this would lead to reliance on other countries that are experts in science fields. In other words, the country could be too dependent on other countries, which has dangers related to politics and communications between the countries.

To conclude, there are many reasons for people choosing other study areas over science, including the hard syllabus and less opportunities for countries. The outcomes are that countries will have lower progress in developing new technologies and medicines and will have less independence on their own. It means that science is a very essential subject to study, and countries should be encouraged to increase their students’ choice for this field.
