It is common these that that in several countries, non-native languages are taught for primary school children. From my perspective, this trend generally has positive impacts on the students owing to several reasons.
To commence, I understand the rational of those opposing this approach due to its difficulty and damage to culture identity among teenagers. Considering the former reason, learning new language at such early age seems as an overwhelming challenge for children as the alphabets, pronunciation, grammar of a new language are obviously not easy to obtain. Such intensive process is not appropriate for these individuals, even leads to tiredness and preesure due to parents’ expectations. On the one hand, the combination of both native and non-native languages results in language disorder, confusion due to the access of international cultures at such young age. It takes years for individuals to develop their own language, and if there is an emphasis on other certain languages, their national cultures can be at risks.
However, I strongly believe that the benefits of intergration of international languages into teaching programmes outweigh their aforementioned drawbacks. First and foremost, primary school students are among the best idealistic demographics to study foreign languages as they have superior memory skills, imagination and can be easily trained in the right way. To illstrate, a 8-year-old child can remember much better than a 20-year-old one when it comes to learning new vocabularies. Secondly, acquiring overseas language, especially popular one ,is really fundamental for students as it enables the children to enhance life skills such as communiation and adaptability to other cultures. In addition , learning new language can result in better future respective as they will have more choices of career in both national and multicultural companies . For example, with the increasingly important role of IELTS test in Viet Nam which can have millions individuals have well-paid jobs, the application and teaching english for primary school children are inevitable for a better future life.
In conclusion, also I admit some potential drawbacks of teaching foreign languages for elementary school children , I contend that the positive aspects of this trend far outweigh the disadvantages.
