On the one hand, it is undeniable that adding a tax in rush hour may bring many benefits. Firstly, people are encouraged by the government to use public transport, which is cheaper than private vehicles. As a result, transport industry may become popular to strongly develop. For example, in Singapore people chose using subway or bus instead of private vehicles, because that is too expensive. Then traffic has been relieved, while Singapore’s economic also has growth, so people can save a lot of money while helping transport industry to develop. Secondly, the government may have a budget from tax collection to implement projects and policies to repair and build public transport infrastructure. For instance, the money raised from the congestion tax is used to widen public lanes and upgrade streets in Milan city, so the rate of people having accidents has the degreased significantly. Thus, the road may be guaranteed to be durable thanks to the repair process.
On the other hand, imposing a congestion tax in rush hour also brings many drawbacks. Low-income people can only use personal vehicles, so they have to pay a larger amount of money. As an example, in London some workers complain that they have no choice but to take private cars into the center leading to increased living costs. Therefore, it puts a burden on people in difficult circumstances. Additionally, adding the congestion tax during rush hour negative impact on business operations, because taxing freight would increase the price of goods, so the number of customers buying during peak hours may reduce. For example, many small businesses in New York oppose this policy because they believe that adding congestion tax in rush hour may reduce revenue and negatively affects the supply chain. Thus, it can have the negative influences on the development of small businesses.
In conclusion, congestion tax during rush hour may help transport industry develop and ensure quality facilities, while it also negative affects on the small businesses and low-income people. I strongly believe that this development brings disadvantages more than advantages
