Some societies have seen a rise in juvenile delinquency in recent years. However, some argue that young felons should also take the same responsibility as grown-up. In my view, I strongly disagree with this notion.
On the one hand, if the judge impose adult punishment on teenage felons, it might yield unpredictable results and ruin juvenile lives. Firstly, youngsters are experiencing rebellious period and their metalities are not mature yet, that lead them to break the law in order to attract others’ attention. Secondly, adult penalty can impact their life forever as felony records will last permanently. In addition, it also influence their social lives, careers, and relationship. Finally, taking an adult punishment will also deprive the freedom of the most important period of their lives.
On the other hand, there are several methods we can use to prevent juveniles from breaking the law and address the issue. We should prioritize educating teenagers who have perpetrated, for example making them attend social services. Additionally popularize the sense of law and the awareness of legality, instead of penalizing them in the same way as adults. Moreover, Schools and governments should pay more attention to juveniles’ psychology, and offer proper guidance in every aspect of life. Last but not lease, law enforcement officers can have lectures about the common sense of law to children.
In conclusion, it is obvious that the number of juvenile delinquency has been increasing. However, in my opinion, it would be wrong to impose the same punishments as adults on these young people.
