It is widely believed that youngsters should get similar punishment like adults for committing crimes. From my perspective, I strongly agree with this view since adult punishment would teach the young population to get responsible for their actions and be an example which would scare other teenagers to commit crime.
As noted above, one key reason for this belief is that adult prosecution will teach the youngsters to get accountable for their illegal behaviour. Teenagers commit crimes because of soft prosecution, however, if punishment gets harder, they will stop engaging in illegal activities. This means that they would be scared from the result of their actions since they could spend some years of their lives imprisoned between killers and members of the mafia. To give a concrete example, according to a new American law, minors who commit crimes spend about a week in prison and this happened to significantly decrease illegal activity cases.
Another major reason for this belief is that the first teenage victims of adult punishment would be an example for their peers to not repeat their experience. To be more specific, in the past centuries farmers used dead bodies of crows as an example to other birds of what would happen if they came on their territories. As a result, the number of crows in these regions decreased. The same strategy can be applied to teenagers to discourage them from illegal actions.
Taking everything into account, it is evident that teenagers commit crimes because of their soft punishment and they live without any discouraging examples.
