In the near future, passengers will be the only individuals inside the vehicles, since all vehicles are expected to operate without human drivers. Although there are some drawbacks, I believe that it has more significant benefits.
The possible disadvantage of driverless vehicles is the higher unemployment rate among the population, because in this case car, bus and truck drivers will no longer be needed. Today, however, thousands of people earn a living by working as a taxi or bus driver and provide their families with food, accommodation, and other necessities. If driveless transportation replaces all drivers, they will need to find new jobs. At the same time, changing careers after many years might cause challenges, as a university degree or experience in certain field might be required.
On the other hand, technological development, such as the implementation of driverless cars, can increase the safety of passengers and other individuals. The reason is that car accidents often take place due to human error, for instance, a driver being distracted by a smartphone or even driving without a license. Law enforcement and stricter requirments for getting driving license have not had considerable impact and the death rate in car accidents continues to rise. Driverless cars are an ideal solution for this case, as they do not make errors while driving and have immediate reactions in emergency situations. As a result, fewer people will experience car accidents and safety of citizens will be guaranteed.
To conclude, driverless cars can contribute to the safety of individuals, even though this causes loss of job for all drivers.
