Band 5+: In the last few decades there have been more and more cases of famous people being hounded by the press. Some people think that famous people in the media have no right to privacy. To what extent do you agree?

In recent decades, the amount of media hounding celebrities has intensified , leading to harmful and invasive privacy. While other people believe that people with fame should not deserve any right to have any privacy , I hold the view that public figures are entitled to the same right to privacy as any other person. However public figures

are usually very influential and powerful , and they might misuse this power in a harmful way . This is where the media plays a very important part – should there be any bad actors, they can be exposed to the public and held accountable for their deeds.

Let’s take a look at a recent high profile case, in which Britney Spears accused her father of abuse and enforcement . The case was started in 2021 where she made her statement in court demanding an end to her conservatorship with her father . She was forcefully compelled to engage in activities she disliked, with the earnings from all her hard work being entirely directed to her father, leaving her without any financial benefit. Not only that, she was prohibited from making any life choices, such as not being able to do what she likes instead she gets controlled by her father like a dog on a leash.

But at some point, I do believe that to be a famous person entails a huge responsibility to the public. All the fans will probably be interested in your personal life, where they might even follow you around to find out more information about you. Becoming famous comes at a big price. As we know, Britney has become a subject to the public, and her image and music have been sold to the public. Therefore, being famous means that you’re giving up your sake for a product. From this perspective, both arguments have their own advantages as to why famous people should have no rights and rights within the media.

But I strongly disagree with the thought that famous people should not have privacy in the media. Like everybody else, celebrities deserve equal rights and a right to privacy. Good fame shouldn’t ruin your reputation and dignity. The public must be able to hold their curiosity level and respect personal boundaries accordingly.
