Band 5+: In the past, most people spent their entire careers working for one company, whereas people nowadays move from one job to another. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Which do you think is better?

Currently, many people tends to change their jobs very often while there was an opposite trend in the past that people were likely to be in only one company over years. Both have its own benefits and drawbacks; however, in my opinion, job hopping would be a smarter choice.

On one hand, working for one company for the entire life is always a top of choice for people who seek for consistent and have the desire to promotion. To be specific, keep staying in one emterprises for a long time help employees master their jobs which is considered as a important factor to promote a person to a higher position. Nevertheless, doing the same tasks repeatedly year over year can make life boring and does not motivate the employees’ creativity anymore. On the other hand, people who are willing to open to experience more strange things have the tendency to move from one job to another. For them, changing to a new working environment is a way to learn and grow in their carrer path as working for different businesses required them to adapt with a multitude of distinct principles even face with many challenges when they first join the new organization. Oppositely, job hopping always goes along with unstability in term of incomes and promotion in career.

From my viewpoint, job hopping is better than dedicating for only one company for two reasons. Firstly, changing to a new organization gives employees opportunities to step out of their comfort zone. It is clear that when moving different companies, people always have to integrate in the new working environment as soon as possible that forces them to put lots of efforts in learning to catch up with their co-workers. Next, job hooping, while sometimes seen as risky, can offer a variety of benefits such as higher salary, diverse skill development and especially expand professtional network which is a necessary thing in today’s society.

In summary, these two options both have pros an cons, but I think job hopping is a must during one’s career path due to the requirement of adaptation and benefits that it offer for labors.
