Band 6+: In years 'responsible tourists' try to pay more attention to preserving both the culture and the environment of the place they visit. However, some believe that it is impossible to be a 'responsible tourist'. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that visitors should maintain the culture and environment of the destinations. However, I completely disagree with the idea that being a responsible tourist is impossible. This essay is going to state reasons to support the author’s argument.

Firstly, maintaining both the culture and environment of tourist destinations is the responsibility of each person. This is because when people go to anywhere, any country or any destination, they have to respect the culture and preserve the environment of those places. For example, visitors going to Singapore have to follow the strict laws, such as not littering and disposing of trash properly to protect the environment. Therefore, whether they want to or not, tourists have to maintain the culture and environment of destination.

Secondly, respecting the culture and maintaining the environment of the tourist destinations help create a positive relationship between tourists and local people. To illustrate, when a positive relationship is formed, that destination will have more endowments for tourists and develop more and more about economics and tourism. For instance, visitors wear a smart outfit to visit Wat Pho temple to show respect for local people and the culture of this country. As a result, local people will feel more welcoming to tourists going to their country.

While many people think that it is impossible to be a responsible visitor, I completely disagree. To be more specific, maybe there are some countries that have quirky cultures, then visitors cannot embrace and follow. However, if the tourist chose to go to that place, they have to respect any culture and follow them, regardless of wanting to or not. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, the culture of a nation has so many meanings and the tourist could not show disrespect for that culture. In addition, preserving and protecting the environment of destinations is truly so easy to do. Disposing of trash properly, littering, and not damaging plants or artifacts are really basic things, which everyone can do. Therefore, just be a polite person, you will be a responsible tourist.

In conclusion, everyone can be a responsible tourist by preserving both the culture and environment of the destination because it shows respect to those places and creates a positive relationship between the visitors and local people.
