Nowadays many tourists are concerned about preserving the environmental and cultural aspects of the places they visit. However, some people argue whether it is possible to be a responsible tourist. I partly agree with it, so this essay is going to explore why visitors can be destructive, even if they are trying to prevent it.
Firstly, tourism may be harmful due to the inappropriate attitude of visitors. The rising number of emissions they produce cannot be neglected. For instance, flights, which are the most convenient and popular way to move between countries, are dangerous and harmful for the environment. The fuel they use is not as ecological as it could be if the government were more concerned about the manufacturers who often neglect the significant problem with the disposal of wastes. Air transport companies should focus more on preventing damage to the biosphere. Another important field is rental prices in cities which are the most popular. Although it can be beneficial for businesses which provide hotels and flats for the tourists, it makes it less affordable and accessible for residents.Consequently, tourism has a negative impact on both the environment and society.
On the other hand, tourism can contribute a lot for countries. This is especially noticeable in towns which became attractive for individuals recently. For example, Bali, which has transformed from a poor and small island, to one of the most popular resorts. People discovered that Bali is the perfect place to spend a holiday. As a result, tourism can solve the problem of unemployment and attract more investors, which will be beneficial for the culture.
Taking everything into consideration, I believe that tourism may be dangerous for cultural and environmental aspects. Nevertheless, it can be a quick fix for countries which suffer from economic issues as in the modern world they can gain more investment and profit from it.
