Traveling overseas has both advantages and disadvantages, not only for the tourists but also for the country which is being visited. However, from my point of view, the positive points of taking a trip abroad are greater.
One of the main benefits of international travel is that holiday-makers can gain a broader view of the world. While traveling, a tourist is exposed to different value systems, traditions and way of life. This gives the person an understanding about world realities and the ability to challenge his or her stereotypes. Another great. benefit is related to the country visited. Foreign tourists can be ideal vehicles for the economical development in a country. In other words, international tourism is one of the main sources of income for the countries which are popular with tourists. The reason is that tourists who visit a country spend a considerable amount of money on accommodation, transportation and entertainment.
However, international travel has its downsides too. No matter how wonderful taking a trip is, the tourist has to cope with a level of mental pressure. A person who wants to travel, especially to a. foreign destination, has to plan an itinerary, be ready for unexpected challenges such as missing a flight, losing necessary documents, being robbed, becoming sick and language barriers. This can be really stressful. Another negative point is environmental damage. Many countries destroy pristine areas to build resorts for the purpose of attracting more and more tourists. The tourists, themselves, take their toll by spoiling the places they visit, for example by dumping their litter.
I, myself, think that international tourism has brought much more benefits to the world, in terms of both personal and national developments. I, also, believe that the stress tourists experience is part of the challenge that leads them to more personal development. In addition, even though environmental problems are serious issues, the world is more and more moving towards acting more environmentally- friendly than previous decades.
