People argue whether it is better to be self-employed or work for a corporation. While working for yourself has a lot of benefits, like being independent as well as having a chance to carve a niche for yourself, it can also come at the cost of instability and struggles of finding new clients.
In contemporary society, a lot of people are burnt out due to toxic corporate environment, so they crave for freedom and success outside of a company. This is exactly what running a business can help them to achieve. Furthermore, even graduates instead of walking straight in the job, choose to start a business in their 20s in order to be independent and acquire enough entrepreneurial experience before turning 30 years old. They are tired of running errands for their bosses, and are not willing to do so anymore. Youngsters strive for independence and a slim chance of succeeding following their own path.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of having a company, especially at the very start. Running your own errands in the business you own may seem appealing at first, however there are negative consequences that have to be considered before launching a start-up. Due to lack of knowledge and money, people tend to make bad decisions, which inevitably lead to volatile financial situation within a company and challenges of finding new customers. For instance, in Washington Post it was stated that 90 percent of small businesses’ owners were forced to close down their “babies” within 3 years, only because of less of funds in the companies. Furthermore, it was revealed that the chances of finding a job after such a long break are approaching zero. So, in order to prevent the above mentioned challenges, everything must be planned in a meaningful way.
To conclude, although launching a business has a lot of positive points, for example freedom and the opportunity to succeed in a niche chosen, there are still a lot of disadvantages like uncertainty and lack of clients at the beginning of the entrepreneurial career.
