Due to the recent rapid evolution of technology, the debate over whether technology brings humans together or makes them more isolated has been sparked. While electronic devices are indispensable in our community, considerable drawbacks can’t be ignored. This essay includes both pros and cons of technology and my opinion pertaining to it. As I aforementioned, technology plays an essential role in our communication. Instagram, Snapchat, and so on, for example, enable people to chat regardless of where they are. This enhances our social bonds by sharing our experiences and emotions through those smartphones or whatever. It is an obvious merit of technological advancement. Furthermore, these digital platforms provide the opportunity to express their hobbies and preferences. By inducing empathy, digital platforms are likely to become catalysts of initial contact. This is evident when we look at the current upward trajectory in the users of matching applications. These factors indicate that technology is an important contributor to constructing a social community.
However, these new ways to communicate can potentially deteriorate our relationships and social standing. According to one Japanese news media outlet, internet-related depression in Japan is slightly increasing year by year. Digital platforms such as Instagram and Facebook can instill in users a sense of inferiority complex, especially when they compare themselves to celebrities or someone who has succeeded in their life. This observable environment can make people feel socially alienated or perceive themselves as lacking involvement.
All things considered, I personally think our psychological evolution is required. Technology is an inseparable part of our lives these days, so I think we need to get used to it and find ways to coexist with it.
