It is widely believed that the surge in violent and unlawful activities in the society has propelled the rise in juvenile crime rates. In my opinion, I strongly agree with this statement, as society plays a pivotal role in shaping the interests and the behavior of individuals, especially the younger generations. In this essay, I will put forward my viewpoints supporting my stance and will suggest solutions to handle this situation.
To begin with, the increase in crime rates amongst adolescents is due to multiple factors. Firstly, frequent exposure to violent content in media channels and video games normalizes aggressive behavior. For instance, in India, movies like Kabir Singh faced controversy as they glorified domestic violence and toxic masculinity. Secondly, nowadays, extremist groups like the Taliban in Afghanistan distribute videos of mass killing to gain support and radicalize younger people. This instills fear in the entire population and influences the minds of the younger generations.
To control this negative trend, governing authorities should impose strict regulations to ensure responsible media reporting. Additionally, families ought to teach their offspring the importance of values and restrict exposure to aggressive content both online and offline. To exemplify, Harvard research on criminal psychology stated that most of the mass shootings are a result of mental depression, peer pressure, and societal actions.
To sum it up, I cannot but agree that the rise in crime across society has contributed to the increase in juvenile delinquency. The primary causes of this trend are exposure to violent content and aggressive behavior in the community. To curb this, the government should impose strict regulations on media channels, and families along with school teachers need to educate children on the importance of values and coping strategies for mental health issues.
