Band 6: It was predicted that people in the twenty-first century have more free time than before because of the improvements of technology. To what extent do you think this prediction has come true? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

There was a view among people that with the advancement in technology, people in the 21st century would have more leisure in comparison to the past. The development has already reduced waste of time in terms of transportation, as well as minimizing the time for acquiring the knowledge. I strongly believe that this prediction has come true fully.

Firstly, transportation is a basic need in the life of each individual, which required a considerable amount of time in the past. However, with an advancement in the transportation system as a whole, people can reach their destination faster and use the saved time for their leisure activities. Take supersonic trains in Japan, for instance. The vehicles are capable of reaching the speeds more than 400kph, which allows them to transport people from one city to another within an hour. Thus, it has a profound impact on the life of each citizen of the country by reducing the waste of time. As a result, people have enough time to dedicate themselves to learning different skills that are favored.

Secondly, library was a common place to get the knowledge by reading books and articles, though it required huge amount of the time to read the whole book, also the library could have a lack of particular books, which meant in waiting for update of the library. The search engines improved the situation considerably by allowing people to search information easily and fast. With Google being testament. The engine accelerates the process of getting information by containing all of the information at once. Consequently, this saves the time that would be spent on searches of books or waiting of the update of the library, thus reducing busyness in routine.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that the prediction about the development in the field of technology is fully true. These advancements are of paramount importance now, allowing to move to distant places and learning the knowledge, with saving the time for leisure simultaneously.
