Many years ago it was expected that people in the 21st century would have much more spare time than in the past because of the technological advancements. While some people argue that development of technology never made change in their schedules, I believe that this prediction is happening and these days, people have more free time.
On the one hand, despite improvements in technology, individuals do not have free time. This is because technology is not able to help or replace some jobs. Lawyers, diplomats and surgeons, for example, these people work excessively and they barely have time for themselves and for their family. These positions usually require critical thinking and flexibility skills, which technology lacks. For this reason, some people still work long hours and rarely do they have a free time although technology is making strides. Additionally, technological improvement lead to unexpected results. It was predicted that it gives an opportunity to have free time, but individuals are becoming addictive to technology. As a result, for some individuals it is seen as a distraction.
On the other hand, in the 21st century technology is significantly improving and it allows people to have more time. In the past, workers heavily relied on papers to wrote presentations or statistics, but nowadays, they just type on computers and it is faster. The remaining time they can finish other tasks, and at the end of the day they can have more spare time. Even at home, individuals do not need to do home chores, as there is a dishwasher, vacuum cleaner and several washing machines for clothes. These technologies are allowing people to remain multitasking and at the same time to have more free time. The prediction is already happening in the reality and individuals are having more spare time than in the past.
In conclusion, some people believe that development in technology did not gave them an opportunity to have more free time and it lead to adverse effect. Yet, I think that it is making changes in peoples’ lives.
