Band 6+: Language teachers should concentrate on giving positive feedback to students when they do good work, rather than on criticising bad work. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Teachers are a huge part of students’ learning process, and the way teachers treat their students heavilly affects the student’s growth and productivity.

Some teachers believe that criticizing a student’s bad work would lead them to focus more on their studies, while other educators believe that positive reinforcement would motivate students to keep performing well and to develop their skills. This essay will argue why teachers should concentrate on praising their students’ good work instead of pointing out their mistakes all the time.

Many teachers believe that criticizing students’ bad work would motivate students to push harder and focus better. If teachers always praised their students and never pointed out their mistakes, the student would be misled and to believing they are correct, would continue to say the wrong thing assuming what they are saying is flawless. For example, when a student missuses a verb and the teacher doesn’t point out the error, the student would continue to use the verb incorrectly assuming they are right. This is a main reason why teachers criticise the students’ bad work.

On the other hand, many teachers believe that validating students’ good work would motivate them to continue performing well. When teachers give positive feedback to their students they would work harder and start to focus on more things to develop their skills and grow. For example, when a teacher praises a student for using strong vocabs, the student would start to look more into new vocabs, and learn more synonyims for words so they would continue being praised and congradulated.

This essay argued why teachers should concentrate on praising their students’ good work instead of negatively speaking about their bad work and mistakes I completely agree with the idea that teachers concentrating on giving positive feedback is more beneficial than criticizing them and giving negative feedback.
