It is my belief that learning a foreign language offers insight into how people from other cultures think. However, I disagree with the idea that foreign languages should be taught in all primary schools.
Nowadays, many people learn foreign languages for travel and communication, and it helps them understand how people from other cultures see the world. Although this is important for relationships between cultures, in many countries primary school children should not learn a foreign language. This is because young children develop slowly, and their brains may not understand a foreign culture well. For this reason, many parents think that children should learn only their own culture in primary school. In addition, children in primary schools already have important subjects such as history, literature, and their native language. Therefore, foreign languages are less important than these subjects.
On the other hand, learning a foreign language too early can take time from basic skills in the native language. Young children need to learn reading, writing, and speaking well first. These skills are very important for their future education. If they study two languages at the same time, they can feel confused and tired. It may be difficult for them to remember new words and rules. Because of this, they can lose interest in studying. For this reason, many people believe children should start learning foreign languages later.
To sum up, learning a foreign language helps people understand other cultures. However, I believe it should not be taught in primary schools.
