I totally agree with the statement because i have been living in Canada since five years and i had some serious social problems aswell as some practical problems. English is not my first language and even after i learned it for about a year it still was not enough to communicate effectively in other country.
Living in a different country where you can’t speak your own language can become obstacle for most people. The new enviornment and new faces were already overwhelming for me and that become issue while i tried to communicate with people during my daily life in Canada. On top of that different people were using various types of accents and i was having trouble listening and understanding them. I was already nervous and because of this issues i failed to make friends at university which made my studies much harder. Not having friend in a country where i had no family made me feel lonely and it had impact on my mental health aswell.
While my social life was impacted on significant scale this issue also increased my hardships in daily life. For example, Whenever i had some trouble with my studies i could not ask my professor directly for help just because of my fear of communicating. Until i coped with this communication gap my grades suffered. I was also having trouble when i visit fast food places like subway. Usually places like subway are crowded and fast paced where i messed up my food order cause of my poor pronunciation. this incident increased my social fear and i stopped visiting malls and fastfood places which led me to become more introverted.
In conclusion i agree with statement because living in country where i can’t use my own language affected my life overall. my social life was almost over cause of language barrier which took tall on my mental health. my grades were lowered because of it and even my day to day became much harder.
