Nowadays, an increasing amount of agricultural land is being converted into commercial centres. In my view, this trend can have several negative effects on both the environment and people’s lifestyles, although these issues can be addressed through appropriate measures.
First of all, business premises attract a large number of people, which leads to increased traffic and more harmful gases being released into the air. For instance, individuals cut down countless trees and plants for commercial facilities, so it reduces the oxygen provided by trees and plants and increases CO2. Furthermore, this trend has serious consequences for people. The destruction of farmlands can result in farmers losing their livelihoods and sources of income. Besides that, natural resources and food production from agricultural areas decrease significantly.
By contrast, taking the right steps can be the solution to these problems. Governments can set rules to protect farmland and designate certain areas as protected zones where commercial developments are prohibited. Moreover, governments can provide financial support such as tax reductions to farmers who cannot afford to continue cultivating land. Consequently, they may give up the idea of selling their land. Additionally, business districts should be built in urbanized areas instead of cultivated lands.
To sum up all essential points, the destruction of farmland due to environmental pollution and increasing unemployment among farmers has a significant impact on the environment and people’s lifestyles. However, appropriate government approaches can help solve the problem.
