There is a popular view that globalization is responsible for promoting economic advancement and international collaboration, whereas an opposing view claims that globalization is a negative force that results in environmental degradation and unethical use of workers in developing regions of the world. Although there are certain drawbacks of globalization, such as those related to environmental damage, I believe the positives of globalization outweigh its negatives considerably.
It is obvious that progress is often associated with waste. In the case of globalization, countries cooperate in terms of trade and business, meaning there is more consumerism than before. As people are likely to buy more goods, they are also likely to waste more of them, meaning globalization directly contributes to the waste management crisis, which has become one of the largest issues in the world. It can also be argued that more human activity in terms of business made the climate change a bigger issue than it used to be, again showing that globalization’s influence on the environment can, in fact, be negative.
Nevertheless, there are solutions for the aforementioned problems, with sustainable development becoming the world’s priority. As long as governments promote green solutions, globalization’s impact on the world will be more advantageous. The most noticeable benefit is the world’s interconnectedness, especially in terms of economic integration. Countries are now more likely to cooperate in economic matters, increasing living standards and providing people with more opportunities. Traveling has also become easier, with the world engaged in an unprecedented level of cultural exchange.
Admittedly, there is a lot of outsourcing that has been taking place in the past few decades, and there is a widespread view that reducing costs this way is detrimental. However, we can also argue that outsourcing provides people with jobs that they would not otherwise have. Therefore, even outsourcing, which is often criticized, can be viewed as a benefit, helping people in developing countries make a living or sometimes earn incomes higher than what local jobs offer.
In conclusion, globalization does harm the environment in certain ways, but its beneficial influences cannot be overlooked. With the help of several solutions, the world can develop in a sustainable fashion and enjoy the benefits of globalization, which, I believe, outweigh its drawbacks.
