Some people think that taxes should fund education, while others believe all expanses should be paid by students themselves. I totally disagree with the former idea. While it gives opportunity to study at more affordable cost, it will discourage students in long-term learning.
Funding education by taxes will provide many opportunities for students to study things in a more affordable way. Students will start to be interested in other areas they have not studied yet, as subjects will be more available because of the funding institutions get from taxes. Additionally, they will start to do more projects in other areas, as they have the opportunity to cover the extra expenses by funds received from taxes. For example, in Japan a portion of civilians income will go to extra taxes to support local students with paying their tuition fees in universities. This funding increased class activity during lectures students initially were not interested in, giving them a desire to work on new projects they have never experienced.
However, I believe that students should pay for their education, because this funding encourages them only for a small period, causing demotivation in long-term learning. Big topics require a long period of time to learn but they may not be studied by students under this term, as they have already lost their interest because of free funding they have been receiving. In addition, it leads to ignoring the value of education since many students desire to study hard, was their own money they have been paying. For instance, in American private school students who received funds started to slightly ignore tasks they were required to do. Turning slowly into a complete ignorance towards classes, they also lost interest in learning new areas after a short period which significantly reduced regular activity in classes.
