Some people argue that there shouldn’t be ant tuition fees for those who seek higher education. Personally, I do not agree with this notion.
On the one hand, it might be fair not to charge people with tuition fees for university if they cannot afford it. It is a usual case when a student is extremely hardworking and motivated, but his family lacks money. For example, there are a plenty of intelligent students in India, who study hard despite deprivation of opportunities – laptops, tutors or even internet connection might not be provided for those. Another argument in favor is that there will be more motivated learners accepted in a university. Since wealthy people usually don’t consider working thoroughly on their CV or extracurricular activities, they do not care about studying hard in university either. The latest research shows that most of students who pay for their studies barely pass midterm exams, while those who studies for free pass them outstandignly.
On the other hand, it is nearly impossible to cancel tuition fees because there is no budget for all the necessities. Consequently, there are many people such as administrators, professors or cleaners who should get paid for their work. Moreover, it will no longer be possible to maintain the best private universities. Most of the time private universities provide students with numerous opportunities and the newest innovations. For instance, Nova SBE is considered one of the best universities in Europe. However if there will be no budget for hiring the most professional lecturers and organise internships, then the university has no value.
To conclude, even though it is crucial to provide motivated students in need with free education, I believe it is impossible to make it free for everyone in order to maintain the quality of education.
