In the present, the development of subdivisions in the cities is transforming their agricultural land and play areas. This in turn leads to a negative development as it poses a risk in agriculture and the citizen’s mental health.
First, agriculture is one of the foundations that maintains the city’s needs, it supplies the necessities of the citizens. If cities were to build a subdivision in these farmlands, it threatens their sustainability. An example would be a farmer whose life revolves around his farm, yes he will be compensated for taking his land but it contributes to the food production, lessening the city’s supply and leaving the farmer jobless. As a result, transforming the farmlands results in food shortages and rendering farmers unemployed.
Second, parks are one of the few places where citizens can relax and take a breath of fresh air. By removing these places where leisure time can be spent and relieve stress, the people are prone to burnouts and higher levels of stress. With this in mind, their mental health is at risk as they cannot function properly when working and doing everyday activities.
All in all, the value of farmlands and parks are irreplaceable compared to being transformed to new housing. The factors mentioned do pose a risk to the city’s agriculture and its inhabitants, these is major issues prevent this development to be positive.
