Nowadays, in some cities, cars are becoming dominant use of transportationwhile in others, bicycles are preferred more than cars. A rise in car usage canbe associated with the enhancement in finances of people and infrastructure ofthe city, whereas bicycles are preferred because of their maneuverability andeco-friendliness. Although a shift from bicycles to cars means improved financeand infrastructure, I personally believe that riding bicycles is still bettermainly because of additional health benefits and affordability.
Only when people have enough capital and suitable environment, will they buy a car. In other words, if people in a city render bicycles and turn to cars, it suggests that they are earning a lot and there are developments in the city. For instance, in the past there were fewer cars because people simply did not earn much and there were not enough well maintained streets to drive one, so they were used to ride bicycles instead. Individuals do not just turn to cars because they think cars are faster and more comfortable than bicycles. Rather, they start using cars when they have factors that allow them to have one.
However, a shift from cars to bicycles occurs when people face difficulties associated with cars. Given the fact that in majority of megalopolises congestion and air pollution became common but dangerous issues, people are leaning more towards to using bicycles.Cars become less preferred option when people cannot use them like in traffic jams that occur during rush hours. On top of that, there are environmental issues all over the world and vehicle usage exacerbates the issue. On such circumstances bicycles become a viable alternative.
In my opinion, commuting by bicycles is better primarily because of other advantages they offer. First, riding a bicycle is an activity as healthy as walking but faster than compared. This means that people can counter obesity while traveling to their works. Moreover, bicycles are both available and affordable. To put in other words, one can buy dozens and even hundreds of bicycles for the price of one car. Because of such irrefutable evidence, I consider bicycles more efficient than cars.
In conclusion, an increase in car or bicycle usage depends on circumstances in which people live and the city has. However considering long term benefits, bicycles are more likely to be better option.
