The majority of towns and cities are having problems with heavy traffic. This essay will first suggest that the main cause of this problem is overpopulation and then submit constructing wider roads as the most viable solution.
The principal problem associated with experiencing a huge traffic jam is increasing population size of cities. With a huge new-born rate, majority of cities all around the world are becoming overpopulated megapolises. The rising population is the main reason for the increasing number of cars. Consequently, big and massive traffic congestions are becoming more common. As a result, carbon dioxide released from car engines will affect the condition of environment and worsen the air quality. For example, inhabitats of Almaty, the most populated city of Kazakhstan, experience a road congestion, which lasts for about an hour each day. Additionally, Almaty also is the most polluted area of Kazakhstan based on national statistics.
A possible way to solve this is to built wider roads. It not only reduces the congestion on the traffic, but also decreases the amount of car accidents. This would help to make roads more larger and roomy. As a result, more cars would be able to drive at the same time on different lines, instead of waiting others to pass first. For example, in Japan, making wider roads helped citizens to deal with a huge traffic and decreased its amount by 50%.
In conclusion, the foremost cause of this problem is the growing number of population, but it can be addressed through developing broad highways.
