Band 8+: Many offenders commit more crimes after serving their first purnishment. Why is this happening, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many people continue to commit crimes even after they have served their first prison sentence. This is a serious problem because it increases crime rates and makes society less safe. In my opinion, this happens because prisoners do not get enough help in prison and often find it difficult to get a job after they are released. However, there are several ways to solve this problem.

Firstly, many offenders do not receive enough support while they are in prison. Instead of learning new skills, they often spend time with other criminals who may have a bad influence on them. Therefore, some prisoners leave prison without changing their behaviour or improving their future opportunities. Another reason is that it can be hard for former prisoners to find work. Many employers do not want to hire people with a criminal record. As a result, ex-prisoners may have financial problems and return to crime to earn money.

There are several measures that can help reduce repeat offending. One solution is to provide better education and training programmes in prisons. Prisoners could learn useful skills such as computer skills, cooking, or construction work. This would help them find a job after leaving prison. Another solution is for governments to create employment programmes for former offenders. Stable employment can help them live a normal life and avoid criminal activities. In addition, former prisoners should receive support after their release. For example, social workers and counsellors can help them solve problems and adapt to life outside prison.

In conclusion, many offenders commit crimes again because they do not receive enough rehabilitation in prison and face difficulties finding work after release. Better education, job opportunities, and support programmes can help reduce reoffending and make society safer.
