The New Year is a family holiday that has been celebrated for centuries and brings together a lot of traditions, customs, and decorations. Nowadays, there is an important question of how this day has altered and whether we should keep our legacy further or restate the positions due to overcommercialization. I personally believe that this particular winter celebration is essential for the majority of families, and we should promote this culture in our inheritance.
There are not many holidays that could bring a whole clan back together for one day, but the New Year is. It is a clear indication that it has been an integral part of people’s lives. Every culture, nation, or government has its own winter celebration with its own traditions that have been passed down through the years. As an example, in my family, there are tree toys that were created and decorated 50 years ago, and we still decorate our tree within. It is important to save these local customs to be unique and to save our belongings for a family.
On the other hand, besides the benefits described below, there is a clear con: in recent times, it has commercialized a lot. At this time of the year, at the end of December, the streets of the cities are full of markets and shops for customers. The profit is enormous these days, which encourages more and more traders to sell Christmas goods. Furthermore, this could lead to people’s disinterest; some will feel this holiday is “artificial.”
To sum up, while there are some obvious drawbacks to celebrating the New Year, this celebration has become integral, and the value outweighs any negatives.
