Nowadays, the separation of people into two groups: rich and poor, because of the income gap, is a very common phenomenon in different countries. It is often argued that the reduction of the income gap can be the starting point of a happier society. I strongly support this idea, and in this essay, I will strengthen my point of view with some facts.
Firstly, a smaller income gap can reduce crime rates. It is widely known that, because of small amounts of wages, many people try to find ways to gain some money for their families or other personal uses, and sometimes this leads to crime commitments. For instance, research conducted by the Ministry of Justice of Armenia showed that 55% of crimes committed in Armenia in 2023 were because of small income.
Secondly, lower inequality in society can be a key to better mental and physical health. There is no doubt that, in the modern world, many factors cause stress to individuals, one of which can be the income gap. Financial stability reduces anxiety, depression, and stress-related illnesses. A prime example of this is the country Switzerland, where the income gap has been minimized as the authorities took measures. As a result, the country is in first place with the highest percentage of a stress-free population.
In light of the arguments presented above, the reduction of the income gap can be a change with only positive aspects. Moreover, reducing the income gap can lead to a more harmonious and prosperous society. It promotes social stability by decreasing crime rates and fostering a sense of fairness and unity.
