Many individuals believe that communication between individuals has become more effective and meaningful by the presence of the internet, while others believe that the internet has been declining face-to-face interaction and social skills instead. I personally agree with the latest statement that the internet has indeed declining the skill of people to communicate effectively.
The emergence of the internet has undoubtedly brought many advantages by bringing people closer. People with distant geographical area could interact with each other without having to spend much on travel expenses. For example, a student with their professor abroad could discuss research materials effectively in their home countries. Another one is a buyer and seller could ask for the availability of certain goods without inspecting directly to its own sources. These efficient communication method has brought many merits to both parties.
However, the existence of the internet has also brought its demerits. As the internet has become a prevalent instrument for people these days, they would often interact through social media. And thus, they become so used to communicate only by just using their screen, so that they forgot to make a simple interaction in their real life. This led to the decline in their social skills, which seen by the awkwardness interaction they have when they meet new people. Furthermore, the anonimity people used on the internet has made matter worse, as they are free to use inappropriate words without being responsible for it.
In conclusion, while the internet has brought merits to many people by closing their distance with effective community, it also brought its negative effect to people by declining their proper manner of effective communication.
