Televisions have become an integral part of modern society, influencing children in countless ways. Some people argue that watching TV negatively affects children while others think it is one of the most beneficial methods for their growth. I support the idea that watching television harms youngsters because it reduces their physical activity and impairs their social skills. This essay will explain my reasons.
Firstly, when adolescents watch TV, they are immersed in their interests and sit in front of the television for hours, not recognizing that it is harmful to their health. This sedentary lifestyle leads to several health issues, such as obesity and poor posture. For instance, the report of the World Health Organisation presents that the proportion of obesity has increased steadily to 40% from 5% in the 2000s. To mitigate the danger of these problems, they must not look at the television anymore.
Secondly, Children’s exposure to television impairs their social skills. Spending excessive time watching television limits the opportunities for children to interact with others, which is crucial for developing social abilities. When children are engrossed in TV shows, they often miss out on activities that promote communication, such as playing with peers or engaging in family conversations. Over time, this lack of interaction can result in difficulty building relationships and effectively expressing emotions. Therefore, limiting screen time and encouraging face-to-face interactions are essential for fostering healthy social development in children.
In conclusion, I disagree with the opinion that watching television is important for a child’s development due to the lack of physical activity and damaged social skills. Therefore, I am in favor of the parent’s need to be responsible for their children’s screen time.
