In the digital era, air travel has become increasingly controversial. Some people believe that financially attractive air travel should be encouraged because it gives ordinary individuals the freedom to travel further, while others argue that this leads to environmental problems, so air travel should be more expensive in order to discourage people from having it. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument before I give my own opinion.
One of the main reasons why some people think that cheap air travel should be encouraged is that it helps people to broaden their horizons. Traveling abroad people can broaden their horizons and they can experience different cultures. For example, if cheap travel is encouraged, people are more likely to travel abroad. This can result in better cultural knowledge and experienced local traditions and languages. Furthermore, cheap air plane travel can also boost local economy. Tourists rent hotels, buy souvenirs, and gifts. This can result in better infrastructure and increased rates of economy.
On the other hand, those who argue against believe that air travel can contribute to environmental problems and health related issues. They contend that air transports release carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants, which can be harmful to the environment. For instance, planes produce greenhouse gases which can affect the environment and health simultaneously. These emissions can lead to severe diseases such as cancer and asthma. Moreover, air travel can bring over-tourism, as air travel is cost-effective more tourists are likely to travel abroad. For example, millions of travelers visit Dubai annually. Overpopulation can lead to traditional damage, as monuments and destinations are destroyed. Therefore, they believe that travel based on air should be more expensive in order to discourage people from having it.
In conclusion, while both of arguments have their valid points, I firmly believe that cheap air travel should be encouraged as they provide several opportunities for young people and helps them to broaden their horizons.
