Band 6+: Many people think that an increasing number of professionals, such as doctors and teachers, are leaving their own poorer countries to work in developed countries will hold back the development of the country, while some do not. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the number of professionals who are migrating to a developed country, and leaving their own country for higher wages, and better working conditions. Some people believe that this will harm the development of the country, and the rest consider that it has more advantages than disadvantages. From my point of view, I believe that professionals leaving for another country is more beneficial for the economy.

On one hand, we cannot deny the negative effects of professionals leaving to work in another country on the development of the country, causing a ‘brain drain’ in society. There may be a shortage of professional workers, because a decreased supply of professional workers, is not able to meet the demand of the social needs for professionals. This results in a decrease in living standards, which means people cannot enjoy a high quality of life, for example, people might suffer from bad healthcare services because there are no skilled doctors in the country. Furthermore, this can lead to a vicious cycle of poverty, where the people in the country lack education and, therefore have less income to afford education.

On the other hand, there are many benefits that people usually do not consider about this situation. One benefit is that most workers working abroad tend to send money back to their relatives living in their home country. Moreover, this money can be used to improve the current account balance of the country, which means they are paying back the international debts of the country, and also can be used in investments in improving the country, for instance, building roads for better infrastructure. Additionally, money is not the only benefit it brings. Some professionals working in another country can gain experience, and bring in new technology or management ideas, resulting in higher efficiency, which helps the development of the country, exceeding the limits that professionals can bring to the economy.

In conclusion, my opinion stands on the side where it is believed that professionals working in another country have more benefits than it is usually thought to have. This is because of the experiences, ideas, and money they can bring from the developed countries.
