With the advancement of technology, students nowadays do not necessarily need to be in college or university to study their courses. Instead, they can study at home via the Internet. However, as more people opt for home-schooling, some are concerned that it cannot bring the same advantages as traditional learning. In my opinion, I agree with this notion to some extent.
On the one hand, distance learning can bring several benefits in terms of relieving students’ burden. Firstly, students can stay at home to attend courses, whereas in a traditional setting, they have to commute between schools and homes. Secondly, it enables students to have more freedom to arrange their time for studying and relaxing, and to keep pace with their teachers. For example, if students lag behind in the process, they can take more time to review previous courses to catch up.
On the other hand, there are more benefits to attending college or university that distance learning programs lack. When professors give lectures in actual classrooms, they can monitor students to see if they are paying attention. Additionally, students can give real-time feedback to lecturers, making the courses more interactive. Moreover, classmates can make friends, discuss class information together, and even form study groups that are helpful for their learning.
In conclusion, home-schooling is becoming popular worldwide due to the widespread availability of the Internet and electronic devices. This raises concerns that distance learning programs cannot provide the same benefits as traditional education. In my opinion, while home-schooling makes students’ lives easier, the downsides of home-schooling outweigh its upsides.
