In contemporary social fabrics, there have been divergent perspectives regarding the increasing dominance of social media in communication and information acquisition. Whereas this development can be disadvantageous to a certain extent, I would contend that it is a net positive due to its superior benefits.
On the one hand, it is irrefutable that social media would exert several drawbacks if utilized immoderately. The primary rationale is that excessive reliance on digital networking platforms could inadvertently result in the deterioration of social connections. Reality indicates that individuals are getting increasingly attached to virtual communication channels instead of in-person meetings under any circumstances these days. Such defficiency of physical interactions would make it impossible to maintain social bonds due to the absence of facial expressions or voice tones, leading to consistent conflicts and misunderstandings. Another pronounced challenges associated with social networks would be the heightened vulnerability to cyber-fraud and identity theft. Networking users would easily expose to fabricated information and unverified news, which are uncontrolly circulating across social platforms, contributing significant to public panic.
On the other hand, I am convinced that the aforementioned demerits would be far eclipsed by these unparalleled merits. First and foremost, social media would remain a cornerstone for connecting individuals worldwide, regardless of geographical locations. The growing prevalence and availability of numerous social networking platforms such as Facebook, Zalo or Instagram have allowed people to easily engage in online interaction, which are especially important for people with a hectic daily schedule. These applications have also facilitated the formation of online communities, enabling people, even marginalised groups to connect and interact with like-minded ones in a more convenient manner than in the past. In addition, Internet-based platforms would function as a powerful conduit for updating information among users. Due to their inherent flexibily and convenience, interactive digital medias users with a more instant access to real-time news, compared to traditional news sources like newspapers or televisions. Such immediate dissemination of news update would empower users to response promptly in critical situations, resulting in more informed decisions.
In conclusion, although it is indisputable that social media could habor certain potential threat regarding personal data breaches or the deteriorated communication quality, I am of the belief that their superior benefits cannot be underestimated
