The majority of the accounts in a social environment are fake. These accounts are mainly used for online purchase crime because the authorities can’t locate them without enough information. To prevent scams from occurring in the future, the government should make a personal ID a requirement to create an account.
Many people become victims every day to online sellers and can’t identify the culprit. It is difficult to identify the scammer because individuals can sign up for social media with fake names, phone numbers, and email addresses. For instance, if a person who made an account with false information decides to refuse shipping the product after payment has been made, the buyer would not be able to get their order, thus losing both money and time with no way of tracing the scammer.
However, making a personal ID mandatory for creating a new account, while also deactivating those that do not have legitimate information in them, would significantly decrease cybercrime in the future. This is because the police can trace the culprit with the help of their personal documents, and sentence them under the law, which raises caution among other scammers. A considerable amount of the population have already been victims of an apartment pre-order scam in Mongolia, and the authorities are unable to solve the issue. If the personal documentation requirement was implemented in this scenario, the police might have had a chance of catching the culprit.
In conclusion, many citizens are facing difficulties when buying items on the internet. Therefore, I would suggest the government take action, which is making identification easier by introducing a personal information requirement when signing up for social media.
