It is common among students to take a gap year for travelling or gaining work experience before the beginning of the university. In my opinion, a year of working before starting university could be indeed a good idea, however, a year of travelling is a waste of time. A year of working before starting university can be beneficial for several reasons. First, it helps students to make a better decision regarding the desired field of study before entering the university. Secondly, students will be able to improve their resume through working in addition to gaining valuable hands-on experience. Finally, students can build relationships during their work, which is truly priceless for the future when they enter the job market.
Travelling, however, is not the best choice. Additionally, it is difficult and challenging for students to return to the academic environment after spending a whole year apart.
