Some people believe that the widespread use of social media is causing a decrease in attention. I strongly agree with this trend based on social and scientific evidence.
On the one hand, it is an undeniable fact that due to improvements in technology people use smartphones, smartwatches, or other tech gadgets in their daily lives. Nowadays, they like to spend their leisure time on social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and others. Individuals have various responsibilities both in personal life and professional life and they need to aware of all of them in order to do everything on time. But social networks are the most dangerous and terrible factors that can prevent the planning and fulfillment of works and tasks. Because social media has the powerful ability to distract people, and this leads to a decrease in attention spans. In 2023, a group of neuroscientists conducted a study among teachers and bloggers (who use social media a lot) in Germany. They clearly saw that teachers were much better at task about attention than bloggers.
On the other hand, there is a lot of information about hormones that affect our focus and productivity. One of these is dopamine, which is called the hormone of happiness. When people use social media a lot and they see like or friend request from someone for example, they bodies prepare a lot of dopamine for their brains. Then people get addicted to it and it caused attention deficit. It is clear that using social media a lot can harm our brains and decrease level of attention.
In conclusion, I completely agree that attention spans are decreasing because of using social media a lot. There are several reasons for this; firstly, social factors can affect this trend. Secondly, there is some scientific information and evidence to support it.
