The internet has changed significantly in the past decade, changing the way people access digital media. Nowadays, individuals can easily download copyrighted content without paying for it. In my opinion, this is mainly a negative development.
On the one hand, some believe that this development can have a lot of benefits. Cost-free access to copyrighted content makes it easier for people with lower-income backgrounds to obtain educational and entertainment material that they may be unable to afford. As a result, more people can benefit from these media.
On the other hand, it is evident that the easy availability of protected content can have a serious negative impact on creators. Consequently, artists’ income can drop significantly. Copyright infringement may also weaken the motivation of people to enter creative careers, as they may fear that their work will not provide a stable source of income. This could negatively affect the variety of music and literature available in the future. Moreover, the unauthorized sharing of copyrighted productions can ruin the entire entertainment industry. If consumers are not paying for books and music, sales may decline causing publishers and companies to reduce their support for new projects. Therefore, the creative sector may have fewer resources to support talented professionals.
In conclusion, while free access benefits the audience, it can have serious negative effects on the creative field. By reducing producers’ income and sales, copyright violation can limit publishing companies and musicians’ ability to create new and high-quality material in the future. This could harm the variety of media available to consumers.
