In-person meetings at workplaces, all over the world, are not preferred much, compared to those meetings held online. Although, this trend was mainly owned and practised by businesses during the Covid pandemic. The aftermath also observed the continuation of this change. This has allowed the employees to attend the tiresome work meetings from the comfort of their homes with some drawbacks as well.
To begin with, this is very advantageous for the workers, who have been ill to attend the meeting face-to-face. They are not required to leave their houses at the risk of their health. Another positive point being that during the times of emergency, such as, a child’s parents and teachers’ meeting to be attended at school or the death of a loved one. Presence of the person would be virtually marked for the meeting. Finally, a person out of town can also be a part of the official discussion.
Adversely, online meetings prove to be distracting for individuals in numerous ways. Notification pop-ups from other apps in their desktop, makes them to lose focus from the main discussion. Losing the key points of the company meeting gets very frequent. In turn, the employees are responsible for answering to their manager, regarding the unresponsiveness. Lastly, they face problems with the shifting of tabs, after clicking on a message notification, while the meeting is ongoing.
In conclusion, business meetings, which are held digitally bring loads of advantage to the employees to their benefit, but are equipped with various downsides.
