In our modern era, there is a surge of phenomenal rate in most big cities around the world due to the rise in population. This shift has caused a general decline in the overall life satisfaction in the city areas as a result of overcrowding. In this essay, I will discuss the factors of this growth and solutions to overcome this issue.
To begin, one major reason for overdensity in urban areas is the rising percentage of people moving to the city for better career opportunities. Clearly, cities offer better jobs with higher financial remuneration compared to rural areas. For instance, Singapore, a major city known for its increasing information technology jobs, has raised concern for the growing population from 6 million in 2019 to 7 million people in 2021, causing the city to be in distress due to the influx of job seekers from different countries. Moreover, the rising population also contributes to the worsening of traffic on the road. In other words, Malaysia is currently facing bad road congestion as a result of rising immigration in the city due to the higher pay with low tax. Thus, the massive population is mainly due to the attractiveness of the occupation window.
Now, turning to the practical solution to the detrimental effects of increasing density, the government should emphasize upgrading the public transportation in order to prevent large crowds at the station. For instance, increasing the frequency of trains to decrease waiting time, improving the train environment by providing good ventilation and sufficient seats as well as decreasing train fares should take precedence to reduce traffic on roads. In addition, Governments must ensure that industries are divided equally amongst rural and urban areas so that there are plenty of employment opportunities in the villages as well. This would reduce migration from the countryside to the city for better employment opportunities. Thus, with such effort of efficient public transport and balanced expansion of both rural and urban areas,over congestion problems can be solved.
In conclusion, while the city may be a good option for the younger generation to live in for a brighter future, the issues with rising population have to be looked into before the situation worsens. People from rural areas who wish to move to the city should consider the crowding problems they might face.By implementing solutions such as improving public transport and extending business hours, cities can manage population density more effectively and improve the quality of life for their residents.
