It is argued that modern technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. While there are several disadvantages related to this development, there are also many benefits children can gain from technology, I think.
Children can benefit from technology in several ways although it may negatively affect some aspects of their lives. Firstly, technology can improve children’s creativity and problem-solving skills when they use digital tools properly. This is because children who engage with coding programs, educational games, and digital art platforms often learn how to think critically and solve problems independently, while also expressing their imagination creatively. For example, many children nowadays develop useful technical abilities through interactive learning applications even before entering higher education. Secondly, technology can also contribute to children’s educational development. Although some people believe devices distract young learners, many children can expand their knowledge through educational websites and applications. Platforms such as YouTube, Google, and AI tools help children understand difficult subjects more easily, meaning that technology can support their academic growth and future career opportunities.
However, technology can also create some problems for children’s social lives and daily habits. For a start, children sometimes spend too much time using electronic devices instead of communicating with people in real life. It is true that technology allows them to interact online, however, virtual communication cannot fully replace face-to-face relationships. As a result, some children become less confident in social situations and struggle to develop strong interpersonal skills. Moreover, excessive use of technology may negatively affect children’s physical and mental health. This is because children who spend long hours on screens often become less physically active and may experience stress, sleep problems, or lack of concentration. Students, for example, can lose focus on their studies and daily responsibilities when they become addicted to online games or social media platforms.
In conclusion, although modern technologies may negatively influence children’s social development and health, they can still provide many educational and creative benefits when used appropriately, in my opinion.
