It is an irrefutable fact that in present times, the products that are essential for the individuals living in the society are becoming more cheaper. Although it has certain merits, however, it is more proving as a curse, which will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, a limited pros are associated with this trend. The first and foremost one is, it is affordable to all. Due to globalization, the national and international products are easily accessible at reasonable prices. As a result, it bridges the gap between the rich and poor to some extent. Apart from this, saving of money is another benefit as it declines the unwanted expenses like on clothes. So, by saving money, people can spend more on critical needs such as better education and nourishment.
On the contrary, taking disadvantages into consideration, it has many adverse effects. Firstly, it increases the consumption capacity of people, which is good for economy, but has a detrimental impact on the environment by putting more pressure on natural resources for manufacturing process. Another drawback is the production of more waste as perfectly usable products are thrown away by consumers. For example, individuals purchase a newer version of smartphones at cheap prices rather than repairing the old one, which promotes the throw-away culture in the society.
Furthermore, another point worth mentioning here is, it increases the health threat in the users as well as workers. Indulge in manufacturing of goods due to usage of unsafe cheap chemicals and low quality ingredients. For instance, plastic products are not safe for individuals and cause various health problems. Hence, availability of goods at less price adversely affects the society as a whole.
To conclude, after analyzing both the aspects, I assert that disadvantages in the form of more waste and health issues are certainly more in relation to advantages of cheaper consumer goods.
